Cotes du Rhone, Rhone

'Roy' is the old spelling for 'roi' in French and the name Terres du Roy means 'lands of the king'. The vineyards are situated on land which was once two lakes, Rochefort and Pujaut. The lakes were artificially drained in 1612 to provide feuding parties with more land for agricultural use. Today the vineyards are planted on soils covered with pebbles located on hills overlooking the Pujaut plain, seven kilometres north of Avignon. The vines are on average 40 years old and the vineyards are managed sustainably.
