"One day Bierzo will become one of the finest regions in Europe for the production of great red wines" - Emile Peynaud, 1960 (considered the father of modern wine making)

The Property

Setting out to create an elegant profile for the wines of new Bierzo, Losada Vinos de Finca took the bold step of following the example of those old estates, who planted on clay soils, hitherto undervalued.

Thus it was that Losada came to be established on the outskirts of the village of Pieros, on the Route of St James halfway between Cacabelos and Villafranca del Bierzo.

This grape variety has been found in El Bierzo since the Middle Ages, and is characterized by its low acidity and high sugar content. It produces wines of good body and medium-to-high structure, with a soft velvety mouth feel. Aromas range from fresh blackberries, rasberries and redcurrants to mature plums, licorice, Indian Ink, herbs, minerals....

"Losada wines are dark, dense, heady creatures. This high-end version is pumping deep mineral and lead aromas alongside cassis, berry and toasted notes. The palate is upright like a good cadet, with lively acidity and blackberry and spice flavors. This is big and modern but not extreme. Drink through 2023." - Wine Enthusiast

Rewarding Reds, Top 50 Wines of 2014 - NZ Herald (VIVA)
"Spain's northwestern Bierzo region is one of the country's rising stars, making some marvellous wines from its native mencia grape. This one's a dazzler with its deep, dense blackberry fruit, fragrant notes of violets and incense and hints of graphite."
